Modifications

Everyone likes to customize/modify their bikes according to their style. Some people add different types of stickers and some even change the tyres and silencer. Even I modified my bike a little bit.

Alloy wheels
Alloy wheels is the new trend in bike world. Mostly alloy wheels come as company fitted in most new bikes. But in the case of bullet, alloy wheels don't come as company fitted. But I have seen some bullets with alloy wheels and they added a 40% beauty to the bullet. So I wanted it on my bullet and it was done from the showroom itself.

Rear mudguard
I also wanted to change the rear mudguard. I didn't like the factory fitted mudguard. I felt like the mudguard showing the entire tyre affects the beauty of the bike. So I changed the mudguard to the one that comes with Bullet standard with chrome plated.

Factory fitted

Modified

Addon - Royal Enfield side board
I added a side board to my Bullet in the right side of rear wheel. The board is connected to the shock absorber. It was my idea and the board was made by Suresh; a patch-worker.

Addon - Two Medals
I added two medals under the number plate. This added the beauty of my Bullet. It is fixed in a way that it won't scratch other parts. Both medals are gold plated.

Head light cap

I fixed a cap for the head light. It gave the Bullet a classic look and I liked it. It also affects the headlight at night which gives a longer beam. The cap is an afterm arket product worth Rs.30.

Exhaust Pipe Heat Sink
Heat Sink helps to reduce the heat of the silencer. It also helps to block the color change in the silencer. It is made of aluminium and is a great product for those who really take care of their Bullet.

Split seat
Split seat makes the Bullet look more classic. That's why I changed the seat. The spring action is really good and feels comfortable while riding long distances. The seats also give a macho look to the Bullet.

Fog light
Fog light are really useful in bad weather conditions and while touring. An extra light is always helpful in remote driving conditions. I have added fog lights in my Bullet which are cheap(Rs.450) and the bulbs are 55 watts each that are normal fog lamp bulbs which can be replaced at a cost of Rs.50 each. Anyway I'm happy with the lighting.

Osram headlight bulb
The headlight is the main source of light. I have changed the bulb from standard to Osram "Cool blue" which gives a clear white light which shows more details at night.

Is it possible to modify front suspension of standrad 350 in to Electra 5s?

if yes then how much cost with paint works?

    thanks in advance.

  3. Changing rear mudguard will cost below Rs.1500. You can change the suspension. But my Bullet is equipped with disk brakes. So it may not support drum brakes. I don't know the painting costs.

  11. Hello,

I am really impressed with your bullet mod. I want to buy a bullet with a great look and good thumping sound. I hope you will help me.

Can I go for the old bullet and get it modified or else is there any bike (new model) that gives a great thumping sound????

You can mail me at shivakumarnaik83@gmail.com

    Thanks a lot

  12. @Shivakumar Naik
    Thanks for your comment brother
It's always better to buy a new bullet rather than getting a second hand bullet. I've seen many people getting irritated bringing their second hand bullet to workshop every week. I also bring in to your notice that Royal Enfield has stopped the old engine with right side gear. So if you love the old style(gear system) you will only get a second hand bullet. But if you want greater looks and new technology(my choice) you can go for Electra 5S(now twin spark) or the mighty beauties; Classic 350 or 500. I think you also know that Classic 500 is the only Royal Enfield model with fuel injection technology. More details are available in http://www.royalenfield.com
And you wont get the real bullet thumb in any of these new models or even in old standard bullet. because the real bullet sound was only available in very old bullets with iron cast engine. Now we get only aluminum alloy engines. But don't worry at all. You can get the thumb sound by changing the silencer to goldstar or any other of your choice.

  15. Hi Arun,

Nice modifications.I have a bullet electra 5s 2009 model CI engine.I like the looks of standard bullet.By Changing the rear mudguard with that of standard one, do we need any modifications. How does the gap between the tyre and mudguard will be filled. Can we change the front mudguard with that of the machismo as it look broader giving more classy look. And what about coloring it totally black, i mean both the mudguards after changing it.Will it look good ?Please advice me.I thought of going for classic 500 EFI, but it dont have that thump and more over cant afford it now.

    Thanks a lot,
    Naveed.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @catchmeinhyd
You have to contact the mechanic for a detailed description about the mudguards. You have an option to change the silencer to get a descend sound; but that will never match the sound of old Bullet with iron cast engine. Classic 500 EFI is really a nice bike. Is sound the only thing you care about Bullet??

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi Arun,

Thanks for the reply.Mine is the electra 5s 2009 model with cast iron engine.Yeah though i replaced the stock silencer with the short bottle silencer along with the bend pipe of the standard one, I am not getting that thump. Can we do any more changes ? Mechanic says for electra we cannot do any thing more, if its standard then they can do some alterations.

I took a test ride of classic 500, I liked its pickup and looks but didn't get that feel of a bullet though :(

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Ivan
Thank you for the comments, brother.
According to my knowledge; a "goldstar" silencer will give you a thumbing sound and I think the price is between Rs.800-1400. I'm sorry to say that I don't know much about horns. The horn I use cost Rs.450 and I have also seen a horn from "roots" that cost Rs.800 and have more bass in the sound. May be that one will suit you.

  53. Hi ... Bike looks great and the modifications very cool and innovative ... I had booked my Bullet Electra 350cc 7 months back and would be getting the delivery next week ... and am very excited :-)

I would be a new entry to the RE club as I have been driving standard 150 Cc bikes so far with my current one being the Honda Unicorn and previous one the Suzuki Fiero. Hence I plan to first get along the 'Bull' for few months and then decide for the modifications.

    Few Questions:
    1) I plan to add an external fuel gauge ... Whats your opinion ?
    2) The showroom guy asked me if I wanted the thumping silencer installed with an extra cost of Rs 3400/- ... again whats your opinion ? I would like to go for it only if it does not affect the performance of the bike esp the mileage.
    3) I want to the beepers ON for the indicators as I have seen many fellow bullet riders cruising on with their indicators blinking forgetfully
    4) Finally, which is the best engine oil for my 350Cc Bull ? A 10W -40 Semi-synthetic from SHELL is a good choice ?

  57. I Have Recently Installed Alloy Wheels To My TBTS 350 2011 (Original PORADO INDIA Product, 3 Spoke). However I Am Quite Disappointed. It Feels Like The Wheels Have Become Too Heavy And The Engine Is Struggling To Pull The Weight At Low Speed. I Am Needed To Shift To A Lower Gear To Increase The Power So As To Pull The Weight. But In Doing So I Can Sense That Most Of The Time I Am Running On Very Low Gears On City Roads And Obviously I Guess It Would Reduce The Fuel Efficiency. Also Exhaust Sound Of Low Gear Driving Feels Loud As If I Am Racing Even If I Am Running Very Slow. Overall Riding Experience Has Gone Down And I Am Quite Unhappy :(

    1. Dear brother.
You can make any modifications on your bike according to you wish. I depends on your choice. If you need comfort you can upgrade to gas shock absorbers. But if you prefer looks you can upgrade to thunderbird shocks which may require modifications to your bike. I had a friend who changed the seats of his electra to a slim one for looks but later after severe back pain from long ride he converted to original seat. The choice is your. But I encourage you to try out, but have some research before. consult local mechanics and also authorized technical teams in royal enfield. send them a mail. lets see what's the outcome. please let me know the results.
